Mojito Monday: The unofficial end of summer

Do you feel it yet? The shift in the weather? Last night was finally cool enough that we could turn off the air conditioning and not feel like I was melting overnight. Labour Day is around the corner and kids are back to school next week.

My question to you is: how was your summer?

For me, summer 2018 has been a blast—and that was done intentionally. I’ve always found that I’ve been too busy to really enjoy summer like I did when I was a kid. There’s always something to do and the days just hurry by. Before you know it, you’re at Walmart getting school supplies for the kids because school is starting in a few days.

Well, school is starting in a few days and I’ve made sure to enjoy the season. From little things like playing at the park and soccer lessons to going to Canada’s Wonderland and the Toronto Zoo, I’ve made sure to spend time with my family. I’ve also made sure to do things for myself like play mas at Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival earlier this month and going to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

It is important as communicators—or anyone—that you make time to spend time with your family and friends and, most importantly, to refresh your own creative juices. We spend most of year working feverishly and it can drain you.

Listen, there is still time. The weather is still great. Go sit on a patio. Read a book in the park. Do dinner with your friends or family. Visit a farmer's market. Taking care of yourself will make you a better communicator and get your creativity going so you can create amazing content as we go into the fall.

As summer comes to an end, I hope you can make time to rejuvenate ourselves so you can do your best work. Find time to hang out with friends. Maybe join a dragon boat team like my sister or start working out. Whatever you do, make sure you're making time for yourself and your family.
